The Dome from Dyna Edyne
In the midst of all of the indie rock that I listen to on the daily it is always nice to come across a song that serves as sort of a mental reset. The latest release from Dyna Edyne does just that. To start, vocally Dyna is somewhere between Jill Scott and Angie Stone. The only difference being that her delivery, in my opinion, is much more smooth. There is a refinement to her voice that up to this point is unmatched by any other artist I have listened to.
What I like about The Dome is its divergence from the soul and r&b genre’ what sets this song a part is the fact that it includes elements of old school hip hop, neo-soul, and contemporary r&b. It is difficult to nail this song down to one genre in fact there is even a bit of guitar that seems to have a Carlos Santana vibe.
If you are a fan of Jill Scott, Angie Stone, or even Janelle Monae then you will appreciate this incredibly skilled artist. Her lyrics are among the most evocative that I have listened to so far. Strong feelings of just chilling and doing whatever comes along with no real plan. The song is not just one to ride to, but also can easily be used to set the mood for the evening. In fact, as I am writing this I have opened a bottle of wine and am now closed off to the outside world just focused on writing. I honestly believe that Dyna has now replaced New Orleans great Irma Thomas as my favorite artist.
Fans of my blog know that I am not big on dragging out a review just for the sake of word count. I rather jump right in and get to the point, so if you’re reading this make sure that you add The Dome from Dyna Edyne on all of your streaming playlists.
I cannot say enough good things about The Dome or Dyna that the listener won’t soon learn for themselves.
