The Ballad of Life and Death from Feralman
In 2007, I would find myself in a coma on life support, and not expected to live. I believe the exact words that the doctors told my family were “He has a 50/50 chance of ever walking out of the hospital, so it is best to prepare for the worst”. They were also told that 1 out of 2 people do not survive. A month after coming out of the coma I was diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder similar to ALS/Lou Gehrig’s disease. I was then informed that my life expectancy was not much more than three years, or less. It is 2021 now, and I guess I proved them all wrong.
The point of my story and how it relates to The Ballad of Life and Death is simple. When we are given a diagnosis like this it is only then that we begin to question our lives. Things like, have we live life to its fullest or is there enough time to tell those that we care deeply for just how much we do. Life and death should both be celebrated equally.
After listening to this track by Feralman it is my opinion that death should be welcomed rather than feared. The song itself is in no way a depressing one or meant to be a downer. It is more about comparing and contrasting the two in a way one can find a mutual harmony between them. Vocally this has to be one of the most relaxing songs I have listened to this week. There is just something about it that will make the listener feel comfortable, at peace.
As if the song itself were not enough, there is an accompanying video for it as well. Let me just say that this is the most original, authentic and unique video I have ever watched. It is very simplistic and the aesthetic fits nicely with the song. See for yourself.
To add to the bliss of a marriage of life and death are the harmonies of Nashville,TN artist Rochelle Feldkamp. The track was produced, mixed and mastered by Sefi Carmel (Bowie, Bruno Mars, Massive Attack).
Do yourself a favor and listen to this song, and then share the video on your social media for all of your followers to do the same. There isn’t much more that needs to be said other than, Congratulations Feralman on a job well done.
