Stay Right Till The End from Finn Forster.
Middlesbrough singer-songwriter Finn Forster is set to release his new single titled Stay Right Till The End on Friday, November 12th. We were fortunate enough to conduct an interview with him about his new upcoming release, his influences, and any possible future releases.
TMB: What is the story behind “Stay Right Till The End”?
FF: I lived in an area of my hometown for a while, quite central. I’d just broken up with an ex and went into a crazy routine of just playing 6–7 gigs per week and going out with friends non stop, it was carnage. Fun carnage, but not sustainable one bit. I guess Stay Right Till The End imitates those crazy nights out with friends in music form. The lyrics reference my experiences and I guess they’re a message to myself and anyone who needs it, if you want something bad enough, just don’t stop — Stay Right Till The End.
TMB: How would you describe your music?
FF: In a nutshell, Indie Pop Rock with a whole lot of folk influence. Easy listening, but powerful vocals at the forefront of catchy, and relatable songs.
TMB: What is your creative process like?
FF: Nearer enough every song starts on acoustic guitar for me. Most of the time I’ll come up with the chords and melody first. Sometimes I’ll be out and about when an idea pops into my head without warning, I’ll note it down in my notes or record it on my voice memo app before I forget it and add to it later when I have an instrument. If I’m ever doing it in public I get some weird looks. I love collaborating also. My band, Billy Smith, Robb Maynard and Connor Boon are masters at taking music I’ve wrote and taking it up a level or 10. It’s a great mix to have.
TMB: What made you realize that music was your path?
FF: I grew up with it. Amongst my family band called ‘The Shea Family Band’ I was the youngest member alongside my Mother, Uncle, Auntie, Great Uncle, Cousin and Grandad. From the age of 14 I was able to finally get up on stage and play a few chords with them. We played a lot of Irish folk covers. That’s where the folk influence comes from I guess. I knew early on, I want to do this for the rest of my life whether that’s successfully or unsuccessful, however it’s turning out pretty good so far.
TMB: So what plans do you have for future releases?
FF: Definitely release a big collection of singles before gauging where I’m at in around 6 months time. Could lead to an EP or Album. I’m still exploring my production and songwriting to work out which works best and what’s me. I’m getting there. It’s not something I feel happens over night. But I’ve got plans to keep fans of my tunes immersed in new music of mine.
TMB:Are there any additional songwriting or producer credits you would like to add?
FF: For sure, Billy Smith, Robb Maynard and Connor Boon, I’ve played with these boys as my band for 2 years now. We’re at a stage of really knowing each other personally and creatively. They definitely made this tune what it is. The best musicianship I’ve had the pleasure of working with and I know we’re only just getting started.
TMB: Who are your biggest musical influences?
FF: The likes of Paolo Nutini & Stereophonics.
TMB: What makes your music unique?
FF: It comes from a real place, from real experience. I set out to share mantras I live by, embedding them within my music. It’s to never stop and give up, no matter what cards you’re dealt in life. You are always living in the reality of your responses. I like to break moulds and achieve what seems unachievable in certain circumstances and I feel we should all do the same.
TMB: Final thoughts?
FF: I really hope you enjoy my new single — Stay Right Till The End. It’s certainly one to crank up on days you might need a pick me up.
