In the early morning hours of June 14th, 2017 tragedy befell the North Kensington area of London. Around 1:00 am a fire begins to rage inside of the 24-story Grenfell Tower. Leaving hundreds homeless, dozens injured, and 72 had lost their lives. The alleged cause of the fire was determined to be a faulty refrigerator located on the fourth floor. The fire was also fueled by a highly flammable clad exterior. Great Britain has a long history of mistreating those that it deems to be the “commoner”. The rich get richer, and the poor don’t get a damn thing. Subhuman treatment and abysmal living conditions are synonymous with the British government and the unfair treatment of its blue collar, working class citizenry.

While the powers that be might blame the fire on a faulty refrigerator, Britain’s history of mistreatment by the 1% would suggest otherwise. Based on this it is my opinion that the blame resides largely with an attempt to cut costs, and line the pockets of the ultra rich.

The single More In Sorrow is less a song of defeat, but is more of a song of defiance. Mark Vennis & Different Place are taking on the 1% establishment in this song that is eerily similar in style to the 80s punk band The Clash. A band that is known for the anti-establishment punk uprising of the 80s. As citizens it is incumbent upon us all to question politicians and other government officials when they’re motivations are outside of our interests.

What I like so much about More In Sorrow is that it helps to bring to light the inequalities that anyone who isn't a part of the elite 1% face. It is also used as a sort of tribute to those who perished during the Grenfell Tower Fire, and to those still suffering the effects financially and emotionally. I also like that there are different versions of More In Sorrow being released too. Brit Reggae innovator Dennis Bovel helped to remix the track by adding a dub remix, an instrumental, and the single remix versions.

If you are a fan of bands like the Clash then you will want to playlist More In Sorrow from Mark Vennis & Different place. We are adding it to our blog Spotify playlist too. Be sure to like the Indie Rock playlist and follow our Spotify too.
