Longnor by Kev Howell
Musicians like Kev Howell are just one of many reasons as to why I enjoy the music scene in the United Kingdom. The classic 80s rock era sound seems to have been frozen in time there. In my opinion, Howell is in the premiere league of musicians. He blends that familiar classic 80s sound with the almost surgeon like precision of 90s grunge. That is not enough though, because then out of nowhere Howell smacks you with a little blues sound just because he can.
Longnor is nothing like the other post COVID lockdown songs that we’ve listened to recently. After everything we all have been through (thanks China, kidding) we could use a feel good rock anthem. Everyone was forced to endure undue hardships thanks to the pandemic. Rather than linger on the last two years, why not move on and stay positive. This is premise of Longnor by Kev Howell.
What I like about this song so much is the fact that it can transcend multiple forms of the rock genre. At one point, it begins to sound a little like southern rock legend Lynyrd Skynyrd, and in another like Nirvana. It had to me the point of wanting to crack open a Pabst Blue Ribbon, get my haircut in a mullet, but then in another moment I was wanting to wear lots of flannel and move to Seattle, Washington. I’ve really enjoyed listening to this song and have it on repeat as I am writing this.
I am gobsmacked by how hard hitting this song is. From almost start to finish the drumming is over the top in your face. The guitar playing is out of this world. Lyrically, Kev’s vocals mesh well with the instrumentation on this track I am hard pressed to find another that even comes close. We will be adding this song to our new spotify account, as well as our back-up account which has 600+ followers.
