”Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes”. (Steve Jobs,1997)

For as far back as I can remember I always felt as though I were the “underdog”. I struggled with negative self talk, self esteem issues, and a general lack of feeling like I was good enough. Until one day I realized that being the underdog was nothing to be ashamed of,and I started to fight back against those feelings.

UK Pop Country artist Jake Aldridge has given us all a reason to celebrate being the underdog. His new single “Down” speaks to the underdog that resides in all of us. This heartwarming song is a testament to the faith, hope, and love that we should have for ourselves. An old man once told me that there is always tomorrow. I never understood the meaning of what he had said, until the day in which I found myself in a dark place. From that dark place the old man’s words started to make sense. There is always tomorrow holds a different meaning for each of us. For me, tomorrow was the day when I woke up and decided that it was okay to be an underdog. No matter what adversity that I might face, there is always tomorrow.

I hope whoever is listening to this song they feel the same honesty in Jake’s vocals and lyrics that I have. The major takeaway from this song is keep on fighting, don’t give up,and find someone who can be Down for you. There are not enough words that I can find to express how encouraging this song truly is. Aldridge, and his co-writer David Edward Booth have done an exquisite job paying homage to anyone who might be facing adversity, and especially more so now in the time of the COVID pandemic when it seems to be hitting people the hardest.

Production for the single was provided by Simon Reid and with the recording of the single by Sam Holmes. Both of these individuals deserve a big shout out as well for a job well done.
